What do you know, carrying books around is actually the new big thing these days. Now that all the books are in ebook format, I guess something has to be there to fill the void. Kate Spade opts for bright covers (with titles such as Lolita and Great Expectations) while Chanel sticks with an elegant leather-bound volume.

Of the two, I would definitely prefer Chanel’s. I have always liked old leather-bound books, they have such an elegant feel to them!

Do you think this trend will take off? I wonder what books people will choose for theirs. I would probably like House of Leaves and Silence of the Lambs, I think.

It’s too bad hard covers are way too bulky to carry around! I do most of my readings on public transport unfortunately

I always carry my green fake-leather bound journal around with me everywhere, and it definitely garners attention.
Considering that book sales are well down (two major Australian book retailers are in voluntary administration right now), more niche markets like this are really great.

I think it’s a brill idea. In fact, there is a lady here who makes these lovely vintage-looking ones from recycled fabric and old hardcover books. I saw her again at a vintage fair yesterday and her bookbags reminded me of this post.
