I’m finally back in Singapore! It feels amazing to relax and do absolutely nothing after a mad rush to meet submission deadlines. Regardless, here’s a big happy Holidays to everyone! :) I did not bring much back with me seeing that I will be returning to school in a couple weeks’ time. I was really supposed to be saving space in my luggage for food, but I can’t help but indulge in a little retail therapy!

I bought these Zara leather and suede wedges in London – I did a price comparison with some of their items recently, and the markup in Singapore is really ridiculous.

Envelope clutch from Far East Plaza. So very late to the trend, but I foresee that it will come in useful when I run out for a short lesson or a quick meal. It’s the perfect size for storing an iPad as well.

How is everyone celebrating this festive season? I will probably be holed up writing an essay, but here’s to hoping that you have something much more interesting lined up.

It’s never an easy decision to choose which shoes to bring with you when you are on a trip. It’s almost like choosing which child of yours to abandon. /melodrama

I think it is especially hard when you are leaving home for a long period of time – you’ve got to consider footwear for every occasion, as well as take the weather into account. I wish shoes weren’t so heavy so I could bring every pair with me.

Here are the “finalists”: shoes which I think are both comfortable and functional, and most importantly, shoes I will wear often. Nothing worse than wasting luggage space on a pair of shoes you may only wear once.

The boots.

Clockwise from top: H&M Engineer booties. Exceeding comfortable and practical. Doc Marts lookalikes from Bugis Street. They don’t look like much, but they are a godsent when there is lots of snow around. Ann Demeuleemester wedge boots. One of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own, and I can wear them for slightly dressier occasions.  Dolce & Gabbana lace up boots (loot from the Club 21 accessory sale!). They seem awesome for cooler weather, and I can wear them when I don’t want to appear too sloppy.

The shoes

L-R: Yves Saint Laurent trooper pumps. Because it’s absolutely necessary for you to pack at least one pair of shoes for formal occasions. And who knows when you might need it for themed parties? Aldo pumps: I am still waffling about bringing this pair. I might swap it for more “everyday” shoes instead. Vvestiges balenciaga inspired wedges. Purchased from the lovely Venetia! Part of me rather doubt the practicality of open toed sandals in where I’ll be heading, but they look too good worn to be passed up. My toes will just have to be wet and freeze. Aldo wedges. I am unsure about this because they are open-toed as well, but at least I can wear these with socks!

A continuation from the previous post: These are the make up products I bring along for an overnight stay or a short trip, sans skincare stuff. I have so much make up (I seriously need to stop buying them), but these are my favourite products and the ones I find myself using the most often :)

Base products: Bioré SPF 50 UV protection. This goes on after moisturiser and before any foundation. Sun protection is vital in this climate! Maybelline Mineral mousse BB cream. I love how light this feels on my skin – none of that goopy oily and cakey nonsense which I absolutely cannot stand. It has a medium coverage, which is all I need for light makeup days. SK-II cellumination essence-in-foundation. Hands down the best foundation I’ve ever used. It just feels amazing on the skin and provides perfect coverage. It stays put for hours and doesn’t ‘melt’ off like some foundation would, and does not look cakey at all. I don’t think I can praise this foundation enough. :D ZA 2 way cake. It isn’t bad, nor is it mindblowingly great. The only huge plus about this is probably the fact that it’s dirt cheap, and does the job well enough.

Moving on to eye makeup. My favourite brands are NARS and MAC, hands down. I really love NARS!! They have an amazing range of colours and their eyeshadows are soo smooth and pigmented. I have Codura, which is the brown duo, and Alahambra, the gold/peach duo. Both are by NARS. I use Alahambra all over the lids, and Cordura near the lashline. Tempting by MAC has been with me for years and years… it is definitely a staple. I am not adventurous with eyeshadow shades. I only have neutrals – I don’t think there will ever be a day where I’d wear blue or pink. Magnum Volume Express by Maybelline is my favourite mascara as of late. I like how it elongates but doesn’t clump! It kind of smudges on me though at the end of the day. I use Heavy Rotation liquid eyeliner – it has been my favourite for years! For my brows, I use ZA brow pencil in grey, and KATE liquid eyebrow pen in a light brown shade.

I am not a huge blush person. These are the two blushes I use regularly -  NARS Orgasm and an orange shade by Majolica Majorca. I’d love to have Springsheen by MAC! I have been obsessed with orange blush lately.

I have been buying so many tubes of lipstick. I was never a huge fan of lipsticks, but now I’m a convert. I love bold lips – my favourites right now is either MAC Dubonnet or a matte red shade by Revlon. Liberty of London x MAC is probably my favourite collaboration ever! Look at how cute the packaging is :D I love MAC’s Vegas Volt, but it is so bright in real life that I only ever wear it out at night.

Lastly, my favourite all-purpose product – Rose salve. I use it as a lip balm mostly, sometimes for dry cuticles. I love the smell!

What are some of your makeup staples this summer?

Lastly, happy July 4th to all our American readers! :)

This is sort of a recent purchases / pseudo-outfit / what’s in my bag mashup post…

I have an inexplicable urge to head to the beach or a pool lately. Got to take advantage of the tropical sunshine while I still can, before I head to a much wetter and chillier climate. Clean beaches are unheard of here though, so the pool will be a much likelier bet. I bought a black mesh beach bag from m)phosis the other day, and couldn’t resist getting matching mesh pouches in various sizes from Muji!

More of the bag. The Agnès b. keyfob is given to me by my mum. Cryokinesis sunnies in grey from Cheap Monday. I can’t wait to laze like a crocodile in the water, soaking up the warmth. :D

I bought 2 pouches from Muji, one as an overnight makeup/skincare pouch, and the other as a pencil case. I don’t want to make this post too long, so I will list the contents of this pouch in the next post!!

I just realized that I do not have any sunscreen for my body… Do any of you have a favourite to recommend?

I’m all about trying to travel light lately. The downsize of most of my gadgets seems like a good proof of that. First a Macbook Pro to a MacBook Air, then a Canon 5Dmkii to a Fujifilm X100.

Everything here fits into my bottomless clutch. I really love that it looks like 2 bags attached together so i can compartmentalize my stuff. It also prevents my MacBook Air from being scratched by the other stuff moving around the bag.

Here’s what’s pictured:

  • Alexander Wang inspired clutch: Exhibit (Far East Plaza)
  • MacBook Air
  • iPhone 3GS
  • Louis Vuitton Wallet
  • Moleskine Passions notebook
  • Umbrella from Claire’s
  • Mints
  • Lipbalm
  • Fujifilm x100
