It’s been a few weeks into Fashion week all over the world. I thought I was going to just let it slip pass while I contemplate on the meaning of life/poop/get fat procrastinate and pretend I forgot all about it.

Then, I had to come across images of the Gareth Pugh F/W collection. My mind proceeds to get blown, constructing memes in my head like “GARETH PUGH, Y U SO AWESOME?”

This model walks like a samurai.

The collection is a perfect embodiment and demonstration of how the colour black is not boring as long as there is a play on textures and silhouette. The use of semi-shiny leather and matte fabric is simply godly.

Gareth Pugh’s style has always been very architectural and balancing the masculinity of structure with softness of drapes has always been his forte.

Sci-fi priest!! Or knight in civvies!!

If it’s a collection to jump-start me out of my procrastination, it has to be good. Thank you Gareth Pugh for getting me on Fashion Week mode. :D

This marks the first of the many runway reviews to come for Spring Summer 2011. Is is after all, hunting fashion week season.

But before I start, I regret to inform you that we will not be reviewing Alexander Wang this season, all because he refused to use black. Yes, he has broken our hearts by doing that. Give us a season to mope about this.

We get down to business with Kimberly Ovitz.

Kimberly Ovitz presents to us this season a collection with very clean lines and geometric blocks. the silhouette is straight with nothing extremely complex. I’ve been lusting for a good shirt-dress since ages ago.

And what’s better than a draped jacket? A long draped jacket of course.

I have to say that I really love the shoes too. I’d probably describe them as slouchy looking hoofs for some reason.

The Alexander Wang Resort 2011 collection is nothing to scream about, just like most in-between major season’s collections. (ie Pre-fall). Alexander Wang’s collections is one of the labels which we seem to make regular reviews about. This season, we see a continuation of design details from the Fall/Winter 2010, like the deconstructed blazer.

There is the socks+sandals combination which most people still have issues with, but I have more issues with this model’s eyebrows not matching her hair colour. :/

I really love the pleated waistline of these pants although the length doesn’t appeal much to me.

I like the whole relaxed feel that the collection is giving. On their own, they’re definitely pieces one can picture themselves wearing.

Overall, not very exciting. Let’s hope the new Spring/Summer 2011 collection won’t disappoint. :)

Since when must fashion be practical? The below pieces are far from practical, but the mirror detailings encapsulates the fusion between fashion and art perfectly.

Mirror blazers from Anthony Vaccarello

Mirror boots and heels from Giuseppe Zanotti

Mirror wedges by Carin Wester

When I first saw those specially made for runway Carin Wester boots, my first instinct was to purchase the plain version (easy), and stick on the mirror pieces myself (hard). But it would also mean that I would have to stop procrastinating (impossible).

While I think the broken mirrors add a deconstructed edge to the Carin Westers, a friend however argued that they look as if they have cracked under the weight of the wearer. What are your thoughts?

You know I have to admit I’ve never paid much attention to Australian designers since all the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere but with the recent surfing of many awesome Australian Fashion blogs like foxyman, leblogdesushi and seaofghosts I seem to be better educated in that part of the world now.

Today we feature Claude Maus, an Australian label from Melbourne that was established in 1999. Claude Maus designer, Rob Mianiscalco is a multi-discipline designer that later went on to clinch the L’Oreal Designer of the Year in both Men’s and Women’s categories in 2003.
His Spring/Summer 2010 collection features soft flowy fabrics with accents of gothic romanticism. We’re definitely all over maxi lengths like we’re seen from the S/S 2010 collections in New York Fashion Week.

What I really love is the layering options in this collection and the irregular hemlines. The contrast of sheer over opaque thrown in with mixed textures is a perfect medley of orderly chaos.

I think for Spring/Summer 2010, you really can’t go wrong with a pair of skinnies, leather jackets, maxi dresses and something sheer and versatile to throw over everything and of course a pair of awesome heels. I am soooo keeping my Ann Demeulemeester silk chiffon vests.

Claude Maus is available at FAT stores in Melbourne (Melbourne GPO) and Sydney.

Their main store is  at 19 Manchester Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia.
