The weekend in Paris came and gone in a breeze but it remains one of my favorite memories with Dawn. I’ve been to Paris a few times but mostly exploring the city on my own. It’s very different when you have someone close roam Paris with you. One of the biggest draw was to have all the awesome food that we ate.

Like all tourists do, we headed to the Eiffel Tower and snapped some pictures there. The weather was lovely and we had the most awesome lighting.

My replica Dsquared Nappa Spine heels did not break on me this time. Praise the travel gods!

The ASOS O-ring collar was sent to Dawn in time for her to pass to me while we were in Paris. It makes for a really nice statement piece.

Dawn and I were just talking the day before about finding the bridge (Pont de Bir-Hakeim) where the Ariadne’s dream scene was filmed in Inception. We didn’t really think much about it but chanced upon it when we were around the Eiffel Tower area. We’re really huge fans of Inception and it was just awesome being there.

For those who don’t follow us on twitter (it’s @monoxious by the way), Dawn and I met in Paris last weekend.

For us, it had always been meeting every week but that was before Dawn left for London. The last two months had been excruciatingly lonely for me.

I had to head to Paris for work and Dawn decided to come down and spend the weekend together. She wasn’t too fond of Paris previously and I had to change that. Paris is a beautiful city and we had so much fun walking around, taking pictures and eating.

These replica Theyskens Theory wedges were really painful to wear without stockings. I had decided to give it another chance with some new tights that I bought from ASOS. I could not resist the lace print. The fact that they end at the thighs make my legs look longer for some reason.

The weather was also remarkably kind to us. Dawn mentioned that the weather had hit single digit in London but we had a fair bit of sun while we were in Paris. It was nothing short of perfect. I carried around a light cape and it was all I needed.

Black outfit breakdown:

  • Dress with white trim: H&M
  • Sheer blouse with tie collar: H&M
  • Cape: m)phosis
  • Clutch bag: Alexander Wang replica from Taobao
  • Tights/Stockings: ASOS
  • Shoes: Theyskens Theory replica from Taobao

Part I can be found here

Happy 2011 everyone! This marks the first post on the blog for the year…Pretty mundane I must say. But maybe I’ll make a ‘Best of 2011′ post soon. But for now, here’s Part II of the picture spam.

Spitalfields Market. I really love this place. Good food, great stalls and really friendly people. I don’t think this market is nearly as popular as Portobello so there are considerably less tourist traps here. The market is split up into two parts, the antiques section, and the craft section. The antiques section is filled with so many quirky things that I wish I could bring home. This little fellow surprised me :D

The crafts section wasn’t bad as well. There were lots of handmade goodies, from baby boots to avant garde capes. I wish Singapore had something like that where artists can showcase and sell their creations.

Deer feet cutleries. Probably not dishwasher safe. Maybe some time ago, in some household, a family had a cabinet full of taxidermy cutleries.

Paris. I did not spend much time there, and Valentine’s Day in Paris was not nearly as romantic as it sounds. I should really visit Paris again in the spring or summer, it is a rather dreary place in the winter.

Can’t fault the architecture though, I don’t think anything I have seen or read prepared me for that. They are truly breathtaking in person. This is the Louvre from the car.

A little town in south western Germany. While I do love the busy city life, a little respite in a small german village was really welcome. It does feel odd that the nearest mart was a 30 minute drive away though, I’m too used to the city for my own good. I really do agree with German food, though! It is embarrassing to say how much weight I gained on this trip.

I think I don’t take enough pictures when I am overseas. It is a chore to pull out a dslr from your bag every time, and it is not viable to have it out all the time. Unless you want to be a target for muggers and pickpocketers, in which case I recommend flashing neon signs to complete your outfit. That said, if you want to know where to shop in these places, do ask us! Trust me, we spent a great deal of time researching that.

It’s official, I love Haider Ackermann. Last season, I talked about Phi who manages to impress me enough for me to feature the entire collection in a blog post. This season it is Haider Ackermann who left me tingling with goosebumps as I viewed the runway pictures.

The sculptural beauty of the entire collection left my jaw hanging. How beautiful yet how absolutely raw it all looks together. I’d imagine each individual piece being able to be worn differently.

Leather is definitely one of the key fabrics used this season. Laser-cut leather? It’s definitely a level higher.

The collars are draped to perfection, we’ve been seeing all kinds of draped collar this season (Helmut Lang, Gareth Pugh, Ohne Titel etc) but Haider Ackermann takes it up one notch by featuring billowing waves of leather wrapped around the neck which changes however the wearer wants it to look. Pure genius.

And I haven’t even begun raving about the zippered corset belts. Some of them were deliberately left undone with such careless grace that makes them even more covetable and eye-catching.

And this last dress is truly golden. I’m full of praise for this collection. Definitely my favorite out of all the runway collections so far.

Pardon the broken French.
I was in Paris 2 weeks ago and it snowed~!!!! *excitement* Well, it IS exciting for someone born and raised in the tropics, up till the point where my toes were freezing.
Sub-zero temperature is not funny. When will Spring arrive???

I found a small park where there were rabbit burrows and I spotted so many of them hopping around. They were so cute.

The unfortunate thing about winter is the sun sets wayyyy too early. There’s barely enough time to get good pictures. :< Sorry the pictures of my outfit are kinda dark. Note to self: Black doesn’t photograph well in snow. Exposure issues abound. :<

My colleague and I went out for dinner with his relative and it was pretty cool. I always like how the French can just strike up a conversation with strangers.

Then we braved the cold for the hourly lightup of the Eiffel Tower. It’s actually my first time seeing it Eiffel at night and despite the cold, I really enjoyed it.

Black outfit breakdown:

  • Jeans: Forever21
  • Cardigan: Forever 21
  • Leather Jacket: Pull & Bear
  • Scarf: m)phosis
  • Beret: m)phosis
  • Boots: Esperanza
  • Gloves: Lanvin

Sometimes I wish I was in the Maldives instead. I need a beach holiday. Where would you like to be right now?
