I’m all about trying to travel light lately. The downsize of most of my gadgets seems like a good proof of that. First a Macbook Pro to a MacBook Air, then a Canon 5Dmkii to a Fujifilm X100.

Everything here fits into my bottomless clutch. I really love that it looks like 2 bags attached together so i can compartmentalize my stuff. It also prevents my MacBook Air from being scratched by the other stuff moving around the bag.

Here’s what’s pictured:

  • Alexander Wang inspired clutch: Exhibit (Far East Plaza)
  • MacBook Air
  • iPhone 3GS
  • Louis Vuitton Wallet
  • Moleskine Passions notebook
  • Umbrella from Claire’s
  • Mints
  • Lipbalm
  • Fujifilm x100

Arissa and I went down to Singapore Toys, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC) to lend our support to a couple of friends as well as to pretend to be kids for a little while. You can never be too old for toys and games! Simone Legno, designer of Tokidoki was there as well, and we never know he had so many (really hardcore) fans in Singapore! Had the queue for not been so long, we would have brought Arissa’s Tokidoki makeup pouch for signing. :D

Decided to wear my tallest pair of shoes that day. They remind me a little of Vivienne Westwood‘s Rocking Horse Shoes from the front! I might dye the soles black some day when I’m not feeling too lazy, I am not a big fan of cork soles and I really miss doing DIYs on this blog. Sweater is a very recent purchase from the new Topshop/Topman flagship store in Knightsbridge. (There is always some confusion when we say Knightsbridge, because Arissa and I would think of Knightsbridge in London instead of Singapore. They really need to come up with more original names.) It’s pretty badass, although still a far, far cry from the flagship store in Oxford Circus. Definitely more selection than the other Topshops, though!

Faux fur keyfob. It is one of those things that will be so passé a few months later, but you can’t resist getting some while it is still trendy.

Love, love suspender tights. I really need to get more!

Kitty ring from a friend who just came back from Japan. It reminds me a little of Chousie Butts.

Outfit Breakdown:

  • Sweater: Topshop
  • Camisole (worn inside): H&M
  • Skirt: City Plaza
  • Suspender tights: Topshop
  • Shoes: Heatwave
  • Bag: m)phosis
  • Tail keyfob: Wholesale
  • Ring: Swimmer

It’s December again! Besides christmas and new year, it is also everyone’s Travel Season! We have been getting emails asking us what are some of the things that you should bring on board the plane, so here are some of the things that we bring around.

  • Makeup: This may seen odd to some of you. But I always bring a little makeup on board the plane. Of course, it is usually easier that you check into your hotel first before you prepare to go out, but sometimes my flight is so early that there would be hours before I can check in. What I usually do in that case is to put on my face on the plane, and leave my luggage at the hotel and head out from there. My makeup essentials are:
    1. Moisturiser. Recycled air in the cabin can be really damaging for your skin, so facial moisturiser is a must!
    2. Foundation. I mix in a little foundation with my moisturiser.
    3. Concealer.
    4. Loose Powder.
    5. Blush. It adds a healthy glow to your face!
    6. Chapstick. My lips get so dry that they crack and bleed, so chapstick is necessary.
    7. Eyebrow pencil. I have very light eyebrows naturally, so I need to fill them in a little.
    8. Eyeliner.
    9. Mascara.
  • Sunglasses: I don’t know about you, but I always look haggard after a long flight. Sunglasses are your best friend. It’s also handy if you are unfortunate enough to sit next to someone who refuses to lower the shades when the sun is shining in at full blast.
  • Water Tumbler: People often forget about this, but this is seriously one of the most important things which I always carry. Keep yourself hydrated at all times by bringing a tumbler. You wouldn’t be able to fill it up before you board because of liquid limitations, but you can always approach a staff and ask them to fill it up for you once you board. It is much better than having to ask for a flimsy small cup every time, which may tip over and spill at the slightest turbulence. I’m using a Christmassy tumbler from Starbucks!
  • Laptop, cellphone and iPad. It’s a bad idea to put your laptop and other electronic gadgets in your check-in luggage. It gets thrown around, and gets lost ever so often. Make sure your laptop is safe by bringing it on board with you. Remember to pack your charger together with it as well, as there is always a chance of your luggage getting lost in transit.
  • Hair serum. My hair is extremely dry, so I carry some hair serum with me to tame the frizz.
  • A scarf or a jacket. Sometimes, it gets rather chilly in the plane. I find it wise to carry around a light jacket, or a coat if you are travelling to cold countries.
  • Wallet: Should be self explanatory.
  • Pen: For filling out immigration forms.
  • Camera: Keep it in an easily accessible place so you can take it out easily.
  • Skincare products. Moisturiser, Facial wash, serum, eye cream.. Whatever you use on a daily basis
  • Contact lens case and solution. And in the same vein, also spectacles.
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste. Dental hygiene is always important.
  • Headphones: The headsets provided on board the plane usually sucks.
  • Body lotion: But remember to keep it under the limit!

And of course, don’t forget your passport and important documents! Happy travelling this holiday season!

While Dawn has gotten the ball rolling for our Christmas gift ideas with the Travel Edition, I’ve decided to go with something a little geekier. Yes, I will be presenting a list of Gadget and gadget accessories as ideas for Christmas gifts. I fully believe that geeks can be fashionable too.

  • Laptop Sleeves

First up is this gorgeous Alexander McQueen Laptop sleeve which will hold a 15″ MacbookPro really nicely. It’s made of canvas and leather-trimmed which will make it durable and functional while being fashionable at the same time. It’s available for £225 on Net-a-porter.

  • Thumbdrives

Swarovski and Phillips had a collaboration to create some of the most beautiful thumbdrives I have ever seen. The best part is that some of them can be worn as jewellery. Take this one for example, it can be worn as a pendent. There’re many designs available and prices range from approximately US$40-60.

  • Designer Camera Bags

I don’t know about you but I am often annoyed at how utilitarian and ugly conventional camera bags look. This Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Camera Bag would be perfect for carrying around the bulky DSLRs without compromising your outfit. Available at Louis Vuitton for  US$2,250.

  • Earphones/Earbuds

These are the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga in-ear headphones. I’m quite particular about sound quality of headphones but I really do love Beats by Dr Dre products and I would assume that these headphones would be no less awesome. It even comes in it’s own stylish carry case and are priced between US$99.95 and US$149.95.

Other things you can get for the gadget crazy fashionista:

  • For those who have iPads, do check out our list of designer iPad cases.
  • Designer Portable Hard Disk Drives from LaCie is extremely beautiful and streamlined, there’re so many photos and only so much space on the HDD on your laptop/computer.
  • Designer phone charms and lanyards. We’re really smitten with the ones from Vivienne Westwood!
  • Of course if you know the person well enough, actual gadgets like cameras, iPads, Wacom tablets would be really awesome.

So here we have it, the Monoxious Gadget gift ideas. Do watch out for our other Christmas editions coming soon.

Labels such as Prada, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Chanel all have one thing in common -  all of them have put forth a series of luxury iPad or iPhone cases this coming holiday season. I think these cases would make a really lovely Christmas or Birthday surprise. (if spending upwards of $500 is something you can afford to do of course.) I have listed a few of my favourites here!

  • Yves Saint Laurent iPad case, 795 USD.
  • I love how understated and elegant this case is. The design is reminiscent of their Chyc bag, with a singular golden “Y” logo clasp used as a closure. I also like how it is a “book” case as opposed to slip cases. These kind of covers provide so much more protection and having to hold on to your iPad and slip case at the same time can be so cumbersome. However, I can well afford to buy another iPad at $795 so this is definitely a “pass” for me.

Verdict: Nice to look at and lovely to own, but I refuse to buy accessories that costs more than the item itself on principle.

  • Tod’s iPad cases, available in various covers and finish. Yours for the all time low price of $4900.
  • No, I did not add an extra zero when typing the price. It is indeed priced at a whopping $4900 USD. At this price, it’s literally in a league of its own. Tod’s is famous for their leather products and you can be sure than this iPad case can withstand the tests of time, if you have 5 grand to drop on an accessory.

Verdict: It’s cheap. No, really, get it. It’s only 5 thousand dollars, what’s the big deal? That’s like, only the down payment for your annual rent.

  • Burberry London leather iPad cover, $450. Available HERE.
  • Made of granulated buffalo leather with the logo embossed in the front. I love granulated leather for my bags and wallets because it is “scratch-proof”. Scratches shows up easily on smooth leather but granulated leathers are more hard wearing, and this case is lined with soft suede to offer maximum protection for your beloved iPad.

Verdict: I like it. The zipper closure is convenient and it ensures that your iPad is fully protected. Plus, I have a secret love for bright red accessories so this Burberry London leather case in Red is on my Christmas wishlist!

  • Dior Homme iPad case, Price unavailable.
  • Sleek, minimalistic and sexy. These are the 3 words I would use to describe this iPad case from Dior Homme. It comes in black tie leather and classic coated canvas. Unfortunately, it will only be released around December so the prices are not yet available.

Verdict: My verdict will greatly depend on the price, but it gets a tentative “yes” from me because it looks like it belongs on the set of The Matrix. It happens to be one of my favourite movies of all time and I love, love the visuals in that movie.

  • Chanel iPad case, $1555.
  • As usual, things from Chanel doesn’t come cheap.$1555 would probably get you a nice bag from other labels. This iPad case from Chanel comes with its signature quilted leather and a logo charm, as well as an external pocket to store extra things. The handle on the side leads me to believe that it is meant to be carried as a bag as well.

Verdict: It is certainly elegant and classy, but I am more of a fan of minimalistic designs. This bag/case is rich in visuals but falls short of what I want as a case. And at $1,555 it is waaay beyond what I’m willing to spend, even if it IS Chanel.

  • Louis Vuitton iPad case, available in classic monogram and Damier Graphite. $366
  • What can I say, I am really not a fan of monograms. I think it is tacky and loud, and I personally gravitate towards more understated items. I do like Damier Graphite however, but I wish it wasn’t a slip case. I find slip cases irritating and they don’t do anything to protect your iPad when you are using it.

Verdict: It will probably make a great gift at the slightly more affordable price of $366. But as I have mentioned above, I do not like slip cases and will probably be giving this a miss. I will rather buy the matching iPhone/Blackberry cases in Damier Graphite.

Designer iPad cases certainly do have their appeal. They are beautifully designed and made of sturdy, durable material that will probably last you for a long time. However, unless I suddenly come into money, I probably wouldn’t spend more than a couple hundred dollars on a good case. The Yves Saint Laurent case and the Burberry case in red are definitely on my wishlist this Christmas though!

What do you think? Will you buy them? Or do you think they are way overpriced and overhyped?
