I took photos for this hair tutorial a while ago, but I only got around to editing them recently. We are the worst when it comes to blogging on schedule, sorry!! :( I think it’s due to how easily distracted we are. Anyway, I’ve had a few people asking me how I usually do my hair, so this is a short (and hopefully concise) tutorial! I am inspired by Dita von Teese and Lana del Rey’s hair, and this tutorial seeks to emulate something similar to those retro hairstyles.

*I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. It isn’t easy taking pictures with just one hand!

Things you need:

  • Curling iron, preferably around 1″- 1.5″ in diameter.
  • Heat protectant spray
  • Strong hold hairspray. I use L’Oreal Elnett.
  • A comb or a brush
  • Clips or rollers for sectioning.

1. Start off by parting your hair directly above one eye. If you have a short fringe, you can consider either parting it, or curling it under.

2. Coat your hair lightly and evenly with a protecting spray. Hot hair tools can really damage your hair in the long run, and some sprays do contain chemicals which may help your curl hold their shapes better.

3. Section a portion of hair directly above your ear. It should be about 3″ wide.

4. Curl that section of hair in an outwards motion. I find that holding the iron for around 8-10 seconds gives a good result. Avoid clamping your hair for too long – you wouldn’t want to burn or damage it!

5. Repeat the same motion for the rest of your hair. Be mindful that they should all curl in the same direction.

6. Moving on to the other side of your head. I will be curling my fringe separately, and I find it easier to section it using a roller so that it doesn’t get in the way.

7. Curl the hair on the other side of your face. It should curl away from your face as well, not towards.

8. After curling the rest of your hair, move on to the fringe. Once again, curl it upwards and outwards away from your face.

9. Now comes a crucial step. Using a brush, gently comb through your curls. You should wait for your curls to cool before doing so.

10. Your curls should look softer and bigger at this point. Apply hairspray liberally.

11. On to the fringe again! If you have flat hair like mine, I find that backcombing is necessary in order to give my crown some volume.

12. Sweep your fringe to the side and secure it with hairspray.

This is how it should look like when you are done! It will probably look much better on people who doesn’t have a five head like me.

Thanks for reading this tutorial! I hope you find it helpful. As usual, don’t hesitate to give some pointers for improvement if you have any! x

I am by no means a beauty blogger, but I love slapping on makeup so I figured that I’d share how I do my everyday look. This is my (almost) everyday makeup, which I feel is versatile enough for most occasions! I will list the products used at the end of the tutorial. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have any!

(Also, I can’t believe I am putting up a makeup-less picture here. I’m not even going to bother whining about how horrible I look to fish for compliments… Just admire my dark circles and lack of eyebrows, everyone.)

I like to define my eyebags because I feel that it softens my look somehow…also, if you can’t hide them, might as well use them to your advantage :P

Eyes: Urban Decay Naked Palette in Sin (1 + 4), Half-Baked (5), Smog (2 + 3), and Dark Horse (6+7) ✕ Maybelline mascara ✕ Etude House eyebrow pencil ✕ Heavy Rotation eyeliner.
Face: Maybelline BB cream as base ✕ Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation ✕ NARS Orgasm blush

I’m also wearing Acuvue Define Dailies in natural shine!

I have spammed these boots all over Twitter a while ago, so sorry if you have to see it again. I have been lusting after these boots ever since I saw them in On Pedder and Net-a-porter, but I never actually thought I’d buy them. They are like stripper boots on steroids – there’s something predatory about them, even. It is odd how my closet is becoming more basic, yet my footwear gets more and more flamboyant.

I always find myself snapping pictures of my makeup collection when I’ve nothing else to photograph. I blame it on all the makeup packaging being so pretty! The makeup I have in this picture is not representative of my collection at all – I have at least 3 more types of foundation and a couple dozen other eyeshadows and lipsticks. To say that I’m a hoarder is an understatement. These are just the products I love and use on a near daily basis!

  • Urban Decay Naked palette. A staple in most makeup collections, I’d say. The Urban Decay Naked 2 palette is coming out on 5th Feburary here in the UK, and I’m so eager to snap one up (despite me having more than enough eyeshadows already…). It’s a cooler palette compared to the original one though, so I’d have to swatch it before taking the plunge.
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere. I believed I have talked about it in a previous post, but I shall reiterate that it is really great for people with medium to oily skin!
  • Maybelline mascara. I really love Maybelline’s formulas, and the price tag doesn’t hurt your wallet as well.
  • Heavy Rotation eyeliner. Eyeliner is an integral part of my makeup routine. Gel liners are great, but I can’t be bothered to fuss with the brush. This eyeliner is a god sent.
  • Etude House eyebrow pencil. Automatic eyebrow pencils are the best, I really can’t be bothered with sharpening pencils either.
  • Canmake concealer.  It really lives up to its hype. It stays put and provides great coverage, without appearing cakey. I like that it doesn’t take on a greyish hue when use on my undereye circles, like some other products do.
  • NARS Orgasm. Another staple that lives up to the hype.
  • Sleek Makeup Contour kit: I really love sleek makeup. It’s one of the best drugstore brands I’ve come across!
  • Chanel Rouge Orage. It’s sort of a dirty, muted berry. Chanel lipsticks are rather pricey, but the quality more than justifies the price. It stays put all day without being too drying, or feathering.
  • Rose Salve. While it’s essentially scented vaseline, I’m a sucker for it anyway.
  • ZA two-way powder. Not exactly the best product I’ve used, but it does a decent job for how little it costs.

Lastly, a happy Chinese New Year to everyone! It’s the first time I’m not with my family for this festive season

I hope it’s not terribly gauche of me to post pictures of gifts I’ve received over the holiday season, but they are just too pretty not to photograph!! I don’t celebrate Christmas, so these are actually early birthday gifts from my friends and family ♥.

I have no idea that it was customary to give jewellery for someone’s 21st! I am absolutely in love with the Tiffany necklace Arissa got me. Thanks so much bb!! ;__;

My other friends got me the Agnès B. key and ribbon necklace. You might have noticed that I have worn it for a while already, because I received it before I left for school! The ring is a gift from my mom, and it’s just really great that every jewellery I wear now has a story behind them. :)

With the Bvlgari perfume I bought for myself as a Christmas gift…Honestly, I am just finding whatever excuses I can to buy stuff. I’m terrible.
