Taking a break from our usual outfit posts and reviews, we are going at a different direction by listing down a few things which we think no self respecting fashionista should have in his or her closet.

No. 1 on the list: Denim Skirts.

Yes, we know that you are a child of the 90’s. And yes, we know how popular it was back then and you wore them every day as a teenager. But it isn’t the 90’s now, nor will it ever be. The denim skirt never will, and never should be back in fashion unless you want to look like soccer mom clinging on to the very last of your youth.  In which case we will recommend you pair it with jelly bracelets, cropped spandex leggings and sneakers. If you want to look tacky wearing a denim skirt, you might as well go all out.

No. 2: Platform Sandals

There is really no acceptable scenerio of wearing them anywhere, unless in the privacy of your own pool or even to the beach. Even then they’d still be considered questionable at best. They were popular for a brief period in the late 90’s. But so were spandex bodysuits and Britney Spears. If something this ugly only manages a brief period of popularity in the 90’s, you would know better than to wear them now. Girls, there are so many choices of footwear now, why, just why must you wear these? And most of all, why on your wedding day?

No. 3: Camouflage print

Of everything on this list, only camouflage clothing has truly made me want to bury my head in my hands and cry for mankind. Yes, I feel this strongly about it. Unless you are one of the Destiny’s child or Cammy of street fighter, just don’t go anywhere near this, please, for the love of god and everything that is holy. It doesn’t make you a tough grrrl, neither does it signify that you are a survivor. If I see anyone wearing this on the streets I will pull out a hunting rifle and put it out of its misery.

I might or might not have shed a tear when I saw this while searching for pictures.

No. 4: Leggings worn as pants.

Face it. You have heard that it was unacceptable tens and thousands of times. So please just stop thinking that they are a good substitute for pants. They are too thin to conceal unsightly visible panty lines. They often have an ugly seam running up your butt, and they are often so tight that it gives you cameltoes. If you insist on wearing them, at least have the decency to wear a top long enough to cover your ass.

No. 5: Pixie Skirts

I hate to be the one breaking this to you, but they are the singular piece of clothing I hate the most. You don’t look like a fairy wearing one. It’s tacky, out dated and people will assume the same about you when you wear this. The only time I have seen them worn is on Sabrina the Teenage Witch and ladies of unsavoury reputation. I think that ought to say it all.

What article of clothing / trend  do you think should never be worn and wish to single-handedly eradicate from the face of earth?

Luckily I don’t consider myself a fashionista, ’cause I like pixie skirts!
But I agree on all the other items.

Can I say I hate capris? ‘Cause unless you are super tall and super skinny they will accentuate the rest… plus no shoes are good with those trousers!

I’m on the fence with capris. I do believe more people will look good in it compared to leggings as pants. lol.

Ok, if the only choice left is between leggings as pants and capris I have to agree, capris are better!

I find cargo pants highly dubious. And denim overalls. Unless you’re a painter.

    Or Super Mario. Truefax.

  4. Hahaha I agree with everything on this list. The #1 “NO” to me will always be leggings as pants. I literally cringe every time I see someone wearing them. No one wants to see your panty lines, no matter how thin you are.

SAME!!!! I believe a kitten dies every time someone wears leggings as pants. Save the kittens!!

I agree with everything on this list. I’m torn between the leggings-as-trousers and the demin mini for worst offender though. My sister is guilty of both offences, and won’t listen when I tell her I can make out the print on her knickers when she wears leggings and a t-shirt to school 😐

    [Reply]

    Dawn replied on

Oh god, it’s horrible that you can see her knickers through her leggings!

I think leggings + denim mini makes for a look no one will ever find attractive.

  6. Samantha Nandez says:

Much agreed. Leggings look great under a long shirt, but it’s really disgusting when you can see everything.

Unfortunately I see it more than I would like to. :< Most people don't look good wearing leggings with everything exposed.

no. 4, AMEN to thatttt! *shudders.
i personally dont fancy 3-quarter pants on ANYONE but models with super long gams. other than that, eurgh.

Seriously, cutting your legs off at your calves does nothing for your figure, I swear! I really wonder what made those girl think that such a look is attractive, ever.

UGGS. And LuLuLemons. But put them together and my brain just might explode for such a lack of class and an overload trashiness.

    Dawn replied on

I am glad LuluLemon remains largely a north american thing. it hasn’t invaded this part of the world with its tackiness yet!

  9. Malyce says:

Not only platform sandals, but any sort of flip flop. Unless you are taking your dog outside first thing in the morning, flip flops to me just seem lazy and are way to casual. They are worn everywhere. They are also not acceptable as work wear. *sigh*

I also don’t like UGGS. Sorry. I think they MIGHT be okay in the winter with pants inside worn purely as a winter boot. Please don’t wear them with skirts, bathing suits, shorts, or…at all.

    Arissa replied on

I agree with UGGs. AND Crocs. But Dawn insists that it is already a given fact so she didn’t include it into the list.

    CORD TROUSERS.

So. Super. Ugly. And in my eyes a REAL eyesore.

Personally, I hate corduroy tooooooooo! And lint gets stuck to it.

  11. Rachel says:

Spandex and sheepskin uggs! Being an Aussie, I love Uggs, but I hate them when they’re worn with spandex leggings.
Here in Sydney, there seems to be a uniform for spandex lovers: dark spandex with sand-coloured Uggs, a pastel or grey hoodie and a white scarf with the hair done up in a messy knot.
TWO kittens die whenever I see this ==.

    [Reply]

    Dawn replied on

Hahahaha! We get the same type of outfits too, minus the uggs. Replace it with cheap gladiator sandals instead. It’s so tacky!

    [Reply]

    Julia replied on

You get a lot of this outfit in Scotland too, it’s so vile! The short Uggs with MASSIVE sheepskin cuffs seem to have become really popular with leggings and hoodies too.
Another variation of this outfit I see alarmingly often is the low-slung tracksuit bottoms tucked into Uggs with a short cardigan to show off one’s streakily-tanned muffin top…

    [Reply]

    Rachel replied on

Oh yeah! We have that here too but with a baggy, low cut, usually very sheer or burnt-out tank top. Uber gross ==.

  12. Nat says:

Oh my god i HATE it when people wear leggings as pants! seriously, sometimes if they’re a bit too thick, everything bulges out, and the material becomes completely see through. It’s a lot worse in Australia though.. I see people with leggings, then UGGS, and then this tank top that they tie at their waist to look ‘cool’

    ITS DISTURBING.

    [Reply]

    Dawn replied on

Yes, I agree about the unsightly bulges! Leggings does NOTHING for your figure, I really don’t understand why it’s so popular.

  13. Lyssetta says:

    what about crocs?

    [Reply]

    Dawn replied on

I think crocs are acceptable under some conditions, such as workers in the health industries and surgeons etc. But anything outside of that is a big no-no for me!

  14. carissa says:

LOL yeah, legging worn as pants is a total BOO!

    Dawn replied on

I really don’t understand how anyone can find it attractive!

It’s probably more horrifying to see someone dress in a combination of denim skirt, tights and platform sandals. Apparently someone near my workplace wears them together.

  18. Yi Wei says:

I HAD THOSE PIECES OF CLOTHING….

When I was in secondary one.

Srsly I think I hate leggings the most, I find it unattractive with ALMOST EVERYTHING. (apparently people still think that as long as you wear leggings its okay to zao geng. IT IS NOT.)

I also hated logo tees and those brightly coloured skinnies/shorts but thank you MERCIFUL GOD that trend is over…

  19. Shannon says:

Uggs. You forgot Uggs. I think when it’s sheer lack of aesthetic is implied in the name, you should never even think about owning it, no matter how comfy or trendy (though for college up here in the north I made an exception for the cardi ones…guilty).

YES to everything else. Is it just me or does anyone else just want to forget that 90’s fashion ever happened?

    MUCH love,

  22. Carol says:

Oh god, AMEN. I have never approved leggings as pants… EVER! When I first saw it, I was disgusted, It’s so horribly ugly. My mom has those platform sandals. Oh how much I’ve told her it’s hideous and not in style. Anyway, I agree! You should also add boots to this. Like the Uggs boots.
