As mentioned previously, Dawn and I made an order on Taobao via Peeka.sg !! Taobao is like the equivalent of eBay except more awesome, it’s like a wholesale site without having to buy in large quantities.

The catch is that it is based in China which means

  1. Your search terms would have to be in Mandarin
  2. You’ll need a proxy site, China bank account or a shopping service in order to buy from Taobao.
  3. Like eBay, you’d have to beware of scammers. There’s a constant need to check for seller ratings if you wanna buy something

And no, I will not be writing a tutorial on how to buy from there cause Peeka.sg is based in Singapore and I wouldn’t know if there are any ways you can shop on Taobao in your country, it’s far too complicated and I won’t endorse anyone who might potentially scam you.

Where were we? Shoes~!!!

Half of them are authentic and the other half  are knockoffs which I bought from Taobao. It might be hard to tell at first glance though.

These Dsquared Nappa spine boots are not the real deal. When they first arrived I was quite disappointed with them cause the heels were spray painted and it was a horrible blue-white which I hate. Also, one of the heels had bubbles from a blotched spray job.

They look fine in the picture cause they’re been sanded down, primed and air brushed to look like actual bones (by the best boyfriend in the world no less). They’re much more convincing and pleasing to the eye. I’ll see if I can find WIP pictures.

It is surprisingly comfortable to wear though.

Ann Demeulemeester Spring/summer 2011 half boots. Real deal, love them to bits as I went all over NYC trying to find them. Really really comfortable, I spent the whole day in them without any aches.

Another pair from the Ann Demeulemeester 2011 collection. I got these for 50% off from the Club 21 sale in Singapore. My awesome friends got me vouchers from there for my birthday and I had to spend it on my absolute favorite brand ever.

Rick Owens knockoff which I got from Taobao. In short, these shoes stink, they have that fake pleather smell which I hate, I hope airing them out would help. Also, they are very stiff, I haven’t worn them out so it’s hard to tell if they’ll be comfortable.

Other purchases included the Alexander Wang inspired mirror clutch and the Linda Farrow Mickey mouse glasses which I also got from taobao.

In summary, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. There is definitely a difference in quality between authentic items and knockoffs. I don’t advocate one or the other and I think it’s really a personal preference, choice, availability and of course how much you’re willing to splurge. The Ann Demeulemeester shoes were expensive and I could only afford them with the subsidy of my friends (who are AWESOME by the way).

However, I do think that awesome shoes should be available to everyone one way or the other.

I have a love-hate relationship with New York, most of the time I love it, the times I do hate it is when it’s winter or when the subway station smells like pee. New Yorkers are really generous with their compliments (although I am also inclined to believe that Americans and Europeans are generally more generous with their compliments, Singaporeans just stare. BE WARNED).

Captain America! Hnggggg

Belvedere Castle in Central Park

I had the chance to visit the Met for the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition before it ends.

The Met remains one of my favorite museums to date. There were a few Rodin pieces on exhibit along the queue for the Savage Beauty exhibition.

There’s no photography allowed in the exhibition, I did manage to sneak one photo where the camera is at the right height and angle. Tears were streaming down my face as I was walking through the exhibition, if you saw a crazy girl like that, it’s probably me. It was so overwhelming and I was so glad I took the time to go down for it.

Crazy installation made me look pixellised. :D I am easily amused.

NYC is a city with plenty of awesome architecture. I can see why Ted Moseby is so in love with it.

Promising sunlight we had the other day, I am pretty glad I brought my camera out so we could afford decent outfit shots. :D I’ve been doing way too much shopping for my own good. The loot we ordered from Taobao came in the other day (more on that in the coming post) and I couldn’t wait to bring out the clutch bag I ordered.

It resembles my other clutch bag which I got horribly ripped off. The new one costs me less than half the price I believe. Both are knockoffs of the Alexander Wang clutch bag and I much prefer the silver one because leopard prints aren’t very me.

Then there are these awesome Ann Demeulemeester half boots which I got from Bergdorf Goodman. They’re only 30% off and much much more expensive than what I’d usually fork out for a pair of shoes, plus they were a pain in the ass to scour in the sale section. I was looking all over NYC for these shoes and didn’t find them in Saks or Barney’s. I do think that the sales staff at Saks were the nicest. I saw Coco Lee when I was there. She’s tiny!

Dedicated to the most awesome pop star of our time. It was a crazy night of adrenalin and screaming.

I sincerely thank Nuffnang for the chance to finally see her (and we were so close to the stage!!!)

An outfit post featuring a few of the items I’ve been wearing the most often recently. A sleeveless asymmetrical top, a biker jacket I’ve dug out from the dark recesses of my closet, and a zipped skirt I bought on sale. (By the way, it’s still sale season in Singapore!)

I love the top so much – it is made of a very thin material, but it isn’t the least bit sheer. I can wear it alone without layering a camisole underneath.

Leopard print pony hair clutch from the previous post. Deceptively bigger than it looks.

The sunlight was so lovely that day.. Wish we could have light like this more often so I’ll actually be motivated to take some more pictures.
