Rain, rain, go away
And stop giving me a bad hair day

It’s the monsoon season again! It is really great weather for layering, but most of the time it just makes me want to stay home in some kind of a sluggish coma. This was what I wore when I finally willed myself to crawl out of home a few days ago. Black and nude is my favourite colour combination, and I just love how this dress flows. When I swish it around, the shape sort of reminds me of something organic like jellyfishes or seaweed. But then again, I may just have been watching too much nat geo.

Rain and light coloured garments really don’t mix, though. By the time I reached home, this dress was already stained with mysterious substance in at least 10 varying shades.

No, don’t worry. We are not turning into a Beauty blog, Singapore has enough of those already. This blog will still be about fashion most of the time, it is just that I couldn’t resist doing this look after receiving a request for a natural sunkissed makeup tutorial. I used to be all about heavy makeup back when I was younger, but I am starting to get more into ‘natural’ looking makeup. “Natural” because I don’t necessarily believe in the mantra that less makeup is more. I am not blessed with such a good complexion that I can get away with just minimal makeup. When I say natural, I mean lighter, neutral colours and more subtle lines, and creating definition though highlighting and contouring. But trust me..it takes as long and as many products as any other ‘Party’ look. As usual, start off with your usual skincare regime (sunscreen, moisturiser) before makeup!

I think the key to this look are the lashes. Long lashes really help open up your eyes. Don’t worry if you have short bottom lashes though, there are tons of fake bottom lashes out there…just make sure to pick one that is natural and subtle.

Products used (labelled in pictures):
Eyes: Eyeshadow 1 Majolica Majorca BR665,  Eyeshadow 2 The Face Shop BR 806, Eyeshadow 3 NARS Alahambra, Eyeshadow 4 MAC Nylon, KATE gel eyeliner, Majolica Majorca mascara.

Face: Revlon Bronzer in 01 Natural Bronze, Majolica Majorca blush in OR211, MAC iridescent pressed powder in Delicacy

Here are some of the key things to note for this look

  • Thicker brows with gradation. Skinny brows that are the same colour throughout makes you look older and more made up. Brows should ideally be the lightest nearer to your nose, getting darker as it reaches towards your temples. And obviously it should be thinner at the ends too. I don’t understand why some girls like brows that look like they have been drawn on with a sharpie. The rule of the thumb is that brows should be one shade darker than your hair, but girls with black hair should go for grey brow pencils!
  • Orange or Coral Blush: Bright pastel pinks may look really cute but they probably won’t help with a natural look. You are aiming for a “I have just came in from the cold” or “I have been out exercising in the sun” kind of flush. Experiment to find the blush that fits you the most!
  • Eyeliner: Draw it as close to the lashline / in between the lashline as possible. Avoid slathering on a thick line – save that for smokey eye makeup!
  • Eyeshadow: I like pale, neutral shades like brown and gold. Some girls look really good with light pink eyeshadow too!

It’s a really easy and versatile look. You can wear it to brunches, picnics, school or even work! I wish I had the Urban Decay Naked palette so I can do this makeup anywhere!

Hark! A post! I am truly sorry for neglecting the blog till now. I have been living the life of a recluse, refusing to socialize until my friends lured me out with the promise of food. We went to Little Part I, a quaint little cafe located right in the heart of Thomson. Jingna first introduced me to this place and their irish beef stew is really delicious!

My outfit of the day consists of a draped cardigan and wedges, both of which are birthday gifts from my friends. :D The wedges are really comfortable!

Outfit Breakdown:

  • Cardigan: Birthday gift
  • Draped top (worn inside): Forever 21
  • Skirt: Sonia Rykiel for H&M
  • Shoes: Aldo (also a gift)
  • Bag: M)phosis

Now for some food pictures and random snaps. Now, I am not a narcissistic jerkface who only takes pictures of herself (although if you were to say that, I am not exactly going to deny the allegations) I am just not sure if my friends are comfortable with me posting their pictures here.

As the name may suggest, Little Pt 1 is a book cafe. There are all kinds of books for you to browse, from Lonely Planet travel guides to crime fiction. They welcome all used books that you do not want as well. We found a book that teaches you Japanese! Here’s a very dry paragraph talking about the industrialization of the Japanese economy after WWII.

Someone’s coffee. Trust me when I say that the majority of us are nocturnal creatures, and that 11 was way too early for us to meet.

Curried french fries. A little spicy, a little bitter, and completely delicious.

The walls are plastered with mementos from the owners’ travels and experiences. There were concert tickets to Muse, pictures taken in what I think is Melbourne, Europe, and even a map and a few pictures of Alcatraz. I really wish to go there one day!

Randomly, while walking along Orchard Road, I have noticed that the new and first H&M store in Singapore is already under construction!

Pre-Fall collections don’t get much attention, even from most fashion labels. Alexander Wang has been consistently delivering collection after collection from his studio.

Prefall collection this year for Alexander Wang returns him to his roots. Basic androgyny and clean lines. His pieces are so wearable and I’m not surprised to see fashion bloggers coveting them.

Those shoes look pretty comfortable to wear too.
