We’re back we’re back! Did you miss us? No? I will take that as a yes anyway.

As you can see, some of our posts have been eaten up by the Omnomnomasaurus during our server migration, but fear not! We’ll be embarking on a heroic crusade to rescue them soon. Anyway, here’s the much delayed post that was supposed to be up before our site went aw/ol on us. Don’t be too hard on it, though. I had a good talk with it and it managed to seem somehow remorseful.

Enough with the rigmarole, I can’t believe it is already the third -and final- challenge! Its truly a mixture of joy with a tinge of sadness. It may signify the end of sleepless nights editing the pictures and fretting over outfits, but also the thrill of hunting for an outfit and shooting with a tight deadline looming over our heads. I have not only encountered new friends, but also explored beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion. Thank you Tampines1!

  • Cardigan: BossiniStyle, $59
  • Top: Dorothy Perkins, $46
  • Skirt: Topshop, $76
  • Hair corsage: Topshop, $19
  • Necklace: Diva, $13
  • Diamante ring: 5.90, Chameleon
  • Shoes: Yves Saint Laurent

When I first saw this cardigan, I was at a loss of how to coordinate it. Even my mum said that it “wasn’t something you’d normally wear”. It’s true, I’ve get to grow out of black/studs/buckles/zipper obsession. The delicate crocheting details immediately reminds me of the whimsical romantic silhouettes I saw in Chanel’s famous s/s 10 show. Hence I chose to keep the colours within the same palette, and coordinated the outfit with the recurring theme of black bow against nude background in the top, skirt and shoes. The neckline is embellished with sequins and printed motifs, which I feel keep the top from being too plain and blending together with the cardigan. The soft floaty skirt complements the top perfectly, and the bow detailing immediatedly brings to mind the YSL cage heels in silver from their spring 2009 collection. The delicate silver keeps the cage detailing from being too distracting and overpowering, and the black velvet bow then ties the whole outfit together. (Pun unintended)

Somehow I had the misconception that the more you pay for the shoes (i.e. designer), the more comfortable they would be. Well, let me dispel this rumor once and for all. This pair of heels are as uncomfortable as a rectum examination. Not like I had one, but you probably didn’t want to know that anyway.

What do you think? Are designer shoes really more comfortable, or are you just paying for the brand and the design?

Hello friends,

It’s been a long time since you’ve seen us. We really do apologise for our disappearance and we swear it is not planned.

On the morning of 12th Apr, monoxious.com suddenly went offline with the host doing a server update without prior notification. It escalated into a database rescaling which was projected to last 2-3days.

3days later, the problem was not solved, we had to communicate with our host which was in California while at the same time make a decision to shift the blog over to a local host so that we’d be able to have better communication in the future. It was nothing short of a nightmare.

After the whole ordeal of waiting and having our questions answered over 16timezones, we found the database of our blog to be COMPLETELY wiped out. No tables, no blog posts. We were devastated. We were even advised by our current host, to prepare to start anew. Thankfully, our previous host was able to provide us with a backup of the database, it was not the most current (we have about 8 posts still missing, we’re trying to restore them from caches please be patient) but at least the bulk of our work is still intact.

For the past week, our traffic suffered, I guess people just thought that monoxious decided to shut down without telling anyone. We were nothing short of being wrecks but at the same time, we had people leaving us messages on our Facebook page and Twitter telling us they can’t view our blogs or how sad they are that our blog is broken.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Our efforts in pushing monoxious as a blog has been shaken and that in some parts, we have gone back to what we were a few months ago. We suffered a rollback which we may potentially never recover from, BUT you keep us going. We know many of you have been checking back every single day and we really really appreciate it.

Thank you everyone. You are all so dear to us.

Sorry we don’t have half naked girls prancing around with a sign to announce this, but yes, it’s round two of the Tampines1 Weekly Challenge! Same rules as follows: Simply become a fan on Tampines1’s Facebook Page! and “like” the picture. If you are already a member, then just click to vote! Told you it’d get easier.

Yes everyone! This is actually not in a shade of black! I felt like pairing something romantic and girly with the shoes. Afterall, romantic is the operative word of Spring/Summer 2010, isn’t it? I kept the look from being tooth-achingly sweet and cliche with the harness and the shoes, and balancing it out with the whimsical accessories.

Snakeskin sandals: Jwest, $149.90
Dress: Topshop, $119
Camisole: Uniqlo, $14.90
Harness: My own
Corsage: Chameleon, $5.90
Necklace: Diva, $13

I wore it with our very own DIY Maison Michel ears here.

Since we (and by we, I mean I) are on the topic of voting, let me just say that I absolutely hate, hate, hate rallying for votes. You will vote for me, or you won’t. I am saying this because I am absolutely grateful to everyone who have voted for me without me badgering you to. I am saying this because I am truly happy that all of you did this unconditionally (I am saying unconditionally because I honestly have no idea who did or did not vote, so they are not doing this for my worthless gratitude). I am happy that all of you who have voted for me took the trouble to, even if I only talked to you once a year, or have never at all. And that truly means more to us at Monoxious than anything. Reading the comments and messages makes me realize how fortunate we are to have your constant support despite our laziness when it comes to blogging sometimes. And this does not just apply to those who have voted for us. It goes out to all our readers. Thank you for your support! And I am sorry for this verbal diarrhea that is longer than Sarah Jessica Parker’s face.

Special thanks to Ladyironchef who took the pictures (Incidentally, he is neither a lady, nor made of iron,) and Jingna who took one look at my sad attempt to edit the first picture, shook her head, and edited it for me.

The Fall/ Winter 2010 major fashion shows have passed for a while now, so it’s time to collate what we have seen so far.

Aside from the obvious that there is alot of black going on, there’s alot of attention to collar and lapel detailing this season. I love draped jacket lapels and it’s pretty evident that I’m all excited over the F/W 2010 fashion shows. It’s been a good season and I’m looking forward to seeing all these jackets on actual people.

Rad Hourani makes use of multiple lapels and lightweight wools.

Helmut Lang is no stranger to using the draped jacket lapel detailing in their collection, this season they went for something slightly heavier using wool linings.

It’s no secret that Haider Ackermann’s collection for Fall/Winter is my favourite. Their jacket detailing makes my jaw drop everytime I look at it.

Gareth Pugh decides to one-up everyone by making use of one of the materials that is a bitch to sew; leather. I obviously have a love/hate relationship with it.

Love or hate draped jacket lapels? What do you think are the notable Fall/Winter trends for 2010?
