Yearly Archives: 2010

Now that Christmas is over, what is everyone planning to do on New Year’s Eve? Unfortunately I don’t have any plans yet, but here’s to hoping that the year ahead will be better for all of us. I do wish Singapore would have awesome countdown parties, minus the sweat and the crowd. Anyway, here is a day to night look suitable for parties! It is perfect if you are just knocking off from your job and are looking for a way to transform your makeup without removing it completely.

I have forgotten to label the colours I look in the pictures, so please bear with me!

Products used:

Hilighting shade: MAC Nylon
Red-Gold eyeshadow: NARS Isolde
Dark brown and Medium Brown: NARS Cordura, MAC Tempting
Black Eyeshadow: MAC Black Tied

The eyeshadows can be seen here in the previous post

To amp up the look, you can apply loose glitter all over the lids, or use a bold colour on your lips. It’s not every day that you get to do bold makeup, so go all out for your New Year’s Eve celebration!!

A belated season’s greeting to everyone! I really hope you had a better Christmas than I did, which is hardly difficult as I was down with food poisoning just a day prior. Alright, enough of being a Debbie Downer. As Arissa has mentioned, we have been getting requests on Formspring for a makeup tutorial, and we figured that there wouldn’t be any harm doing so! We can never be real makeup bloggers though. We mostly stick to the few products we swear by and aren’t too experimental with looks. However, we might probably document hair and makeup tutorials once in a while here, as long as you enjoy it :) If you have any specific requests (Example: “How did you do your hair or makeup in this picture?” or “Do you have an eyeliner recommendation?“) please feel free to drop us an email/comment/formspring/tweet/whatever!

Here’s my “go-to” makeup. It’s the look that I do the most often, with slight variations every now and then.

Products used:

  • Eyebrow Pencil: Za Cosmetics GY70.
  • Eyeshadow “A”: NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Alahambra.
  • Eyeshadow “B”: Majolica Majorca Single Eyeshadow (discontinued)
  • Eyeshadow “C”: NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Cordura
  • Eyeshadow “D”: MAC eyeshadow in Nylon
  • Gel Eyeliner: KATE gel eyeliner in BK01
  • Pencil eyeliner: Bourjois Khol Contour
  • White eyeliner: Missha
  • Mascara: Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus
  • Blush: MAC Fleur Power

Here is my eyeshadow stash. I did not include palettes and pigments. Another time perhaps! The eyeshadows I have used above are also pictured to provide a better idea of the colours. They may vary on you depending on your skin tone.

Horizontal rows from the back, L-R
Row 1: NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Alahambra, Isolde and Cordura.
Row 2: Etude House loose glitter, The Face Shop dark brown eyeshadow, Majolica Majorca single eyeshadow
Row 3: MAC eyeshadows in Black Tied, Tempting and Nylon. Nylon is in my own container because it had cracked in the pan.

This is my bag in battle mode. Well, actually it’s what I’d usually bring out if I decide to do some blogging outside (cause there are too many distractions at home).

  • Bag: Project shop Heavy duty canvas so I can carry really heavy stuff in there without worrying that the bag may give way.
  • Wacom Tablet Intuos 4 For DI-ing
  • Multi-card reader Pretty self-explanatory
  • Charger for MBP I spend hours sitting at Starbucks, the MBP battery wouldn’t last me an entire day.
  • Louis Vuitton Wallet For my moolah and cards
  • Kensington iPhone backup battery You can say that I use my iPhone pretty often.
  • Totes Umbrella For Singapore’s crazy unpredictable weather
  • Swarovski Pen To scribble stuff down
  • Travel toothbrush and toothpaste yannow, for the gunk that sticks to your teeth after you eat?
  • Muji Foldable bag In case I buy stuff
  • Random Moleskin postcard
  • M)phosis Bag Organizer I am unfortunately a very disorganized person.
  • Headphones
  • Moleskine Notebook To note down ideas and schedule.
  • 13″ Apple Macbook Pro Where 80% of my life is.

We decided to add another makeup tutorial for a more dramatic night look for all you party people. This is a glitter smokey eye, a different take from the usual black smokey eye makeup you usually see. We’re using loose pigments this time (available from MAC) so a creme base is very important as they allow the pigments to adhere to the eyelids for a lasting look.

Makeup used:

  • Creme base: MAC Creme colour base in True Black (Style Black collection and is limited edition, alternative would be Paintpot in Blackground)
  • Glitter Pigment: MAC Solar bits ins Black Ore (Solar Field collection, also limited edition, alternative would be to mix MAC pigments with MAC glitter. NARS has a good selection of glitter eyeshadow, my favorite is Night Breed.)
  • Medium tone eyeshadow: MAC Smoke & Diamonds
  • Highlighter: MAC Shroom
  • Gel Eyeliner: KATE in BK01
  • Silver eyeliner: Stila in Silver Dollar
  • Mascara: Maybelline Voluminous

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Happy holidays everyone!

Out of many requests that we have received, the most popular one have would be a request for a makeup tutorial. We were very apprehensive about doing it as monoxious.com was primarily meant to be a fashion blog. However, we’ve always advocated that fashion is not merely the clothes we wear but also hair and makeup to complete a “total” look.

Also, it’s Christmas!

Here’s a list of the makeup used:

  • Creme Base: MAC Paint Blank Canvas
  • Dark Brown Eyeshadow: MAC Charcoal Brown
  • Medium Brown Eyeshadow: MAC Tempting
  • Highlighter: MAC Shroom
  • Liquid Eyeliner: Heavy Rotation Black
  • Pencil Eyeliner: Etude House Black
  • Mascara: Maybelline Voluminous
  • Blusher: NARS Deep Throat

Hope everyone enjoyed the makeup tutorial. We welcome all feedback. Please let us know what you think. :)
